Mayyun Organization renews its demand that the Houthi group hand over maps of mines

A civilian was killed and four other fishermen (including a child) were injured in a landmine explosion in Dhu Bab District, Taiz Governorate, on Friday morning, May 24, 2024, in the latest mine incidents that continue to claim civilian casualties in Yemen.

According to information obtained by the organization from its sources, the victims work in fishing and were on board a civilian vehicle (bus) on their way to cut down some trees for use in fisheries. The vehicle was exposed to a landmine explosion when it was traveling on a side road east of the Al-Harikiyah area.

The mine explosion – according to our sources – led to the death of Ahmed Ahmed Salem (30 years old), while: (Issam Badr Mazri, 26 years old, Hussein Habib Hanbas, 15 years old, Hilmi Mohammed Hanbas, 28 years old, and Asad Saeed Alawi, 30 years old) suffered varying injuries. Two of them were seriously injured.

The injured were transferred to Doctors Without Borders Hospital in the neighboring city of Mokha, and later Issam Mazri and the child Hussein Hanbas were transferred to a hospital in Aden.

Mayyun Organization renews its demand that the Houthi group hand over maps of the minefields it planted in Yemen to the United Nations. Mayon considers handing over the maps the most effective way to reduce the number of civilian casualties.
