Taiz 15/07/2026
A training course on “Negotiation Skills and Humanitarian Diplomacy” concluded today in the city of Taiz. The training was organized by Mayyun Organization for Human Rights in partnership with the Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC) as part of the project “Protecting Civilians through Humanitarian Diplomacy and Dialogue.”
Over the course of two days, 17 participants received specialized knowledge and practical skills on the concepts of humanitarian diplomacy and humanitarian access, protection risk analysis tools, and the development of response and risk mitigation plans. Participants were also introduced to local experiences in humanitarian mediation and facilitating safe access for humanitarian assistance.
The training brought together security and military leaders, representatives of civil society organizations, and community leaders from Taiz Governorate, as part of broader efforts to promote a culture of humanitarian dialogue and reinforce the principles of civilian protection in conflict-affected areas.
The course aimed to empower local leaders to spearhead humanitarian mediation initiatives and strengthen their capacity to address humanitarian challenges, thereby reducing harm to civilians and enhancing responses to their needs.
It also sought to promote safe and sustainable humanitarian access in conflict-affected areas through the development of humanitarian mediation mechanisms and constructive dialogue between civil society organizations and security and military actors. These efforts contribute to improving civilian protection and reducing the risks and violations faced by affected populations.
The training was grounded in the principles and standards of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and International Human Rights Law (IHRL), with a particular focus on strengthening the role of local actors in protecting civilians and building channels of dialogue and coordination among relevant stakeholders.
