A statement condemning the arrest of two writers in Marib because of their opinions

We condemn the arrest of writers Hafez Mohsen Mutair and Nashwan Al-Haddad in Ma’rib governorate due to their opinions they express on social media platforms.

The arrest of the writer Mutair on July 11 in the city of Al-Mahra, his transfer to a prison in the city of Marib, and the arrest of the writer Nashwan Al-Haddad in the city of Marib, is the insistence of the local authorities in the legitimate government to violate freedom of expression and to silence people.

As we renew our condemnation of the arrest of opinion writers by the “military police” forces that are not authorized to arrest civilians, we call on the local authorities in Marib to immediately release them and the rest of the opinion writers detained in the city, and to abide by Yemeni law in press and publishing cases.
