Mayyun Organization for Human Rights Welcomes Extension of Masam Project Funding

Aden – June 2, 2025

Mayyun Organization for Human Rights welcomes the announcement by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) regarding the extension of funding for the “Masam” project, dedicated to clearing landmines in Yemen, for an additional year.

The organization appreciates the efforts of all initiatives involved in mine clearance and the destruction of war remnants in Yemen, particularly the “Masam” project. Since its inception in mid-2018, Masam has been instrumental in clearing residential areas and vital infrastructure of indiscriminately planted landmines. As of May 6, 2025, the project has successfully removed 491,983 explosive devices, including anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices .

Yemen remains one of the most heavily mined countries globally, with hundreds of thousands of landmines reportedly laid by the Houthi group, posing significant threats to civilian lives.
Mayyun reiterates its call for the Houthi group to hand over maps of minefields planted across various Yemeni governorates. Such transparency is crucial for projects like Masam and other demining initiatives to effectively remove these hidden threats and safeguard innocent civilians.
