Mayyun Organization for Human Rights Condemns Houthi Raids on Civil Society and UN Offices

Aden – November 10, 2025
Mayyun Organization for Human Rights renews its strong condemnation of the campaign of raids carried out by the Houthi group across several governorates, targeting the offices of UN agencies, international organizations, and local civil society groups, and arresting their staff members. The most recent attack involved the storming of a social studies center and the detention of three prominent civil society leaders who have remained in areas under Houthi control.
Mayyun condemns in the strongest terms the actions of the Houthi-run Security and Intelligence Service, which include the arbitrary detention of the leadership of the Civil Alliance for Peace and National Reconciliation — Professor Hammoud Al-Awdi, a sociologist at Sana’a University; Engineer Abdulrahman Al-Alfi; and Anwar Khaled Shaab — and the storming of the Dal Center for Social Studies, headed by Professor Al-Awdi. Preventing the detainees from communicating with their families and confiscating the Center’s materials without any legal grounds are repressive and unlawful practices that must be condemned by all defenders of human rights.
These arbitrary arrests and raids represent a grave repudiation of the sustained efforts made by the Civil Alliance to end the war and pursue a political settlement among the warring parties in Yemen. They also constitute a blatant affront to the contributions of its leaders — particularly Dr. Al-Awdi — who have worked tirelessly to advance humanitarian causes such as the payment of pensions and salaries, and the reopening of inter-governorate roads.
Mayyun views the assault on the Dal Center for Social Studies and the detention of the Civil Alliance’s leadership as clear evidence of the Houthi group’s determination to impose a totalitarian system that silences all independent voices and extinguishes the remaining space for civil society in areas under its control.
The organization reiterates its call for the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees and forcibly disappeared persons held in Houthi prisons — past and present — including employees of UN agencies, international and local NGOs, embassy staff, politicians, activists, and all civilian detainees. Miyon further demands that all fabricated charges against them be dropped without delay.
